Funeral details

John’s family would like to notify you all of the funeral service which is being held to celebrate his life.
This will be held at 10.00 on Friday 14th July, followed by refreshments locally (details being finalised)
If you could let us know whether you are planning to attend the service and/or the wake via this link in his Facebook page, that will help us plan the catering.

Alternatively you can leave a message / reply here in the comments section.

Donations in lieu of flowers can me made to John’s favoured charity, Shelter as well as Macmillan Cancer Support who took such fantastic care of him at home when it was finally needed at https://johnfoggin.muchloved.com/

  1. Joan, I am very sad that I shall not be able to come, but I shall be thinking of you all very keenly at that time. I hope the arrangements go very smoothly.

  2. I’m in Co Down, too far away. I will be thinking of John but can’t be at the funeral. Love to all of his family. He was an amazing person – packed more into his life, even in illness, than most of us can manage.

(I worked alongside John at Bretton Hall and at Leeds University on the PGCE course – I enjoyed my conversations with him. He also kindly wrote a review for the cover of my first poetry pamphlet.) ________________________________

  5. I am so saddened. John was my teacher at Middlesbrough High School all those years ago, and I have thought about him and the profound influence he has had on my life and outlook ever since. Some years ago I was thrilled to be able to contact him again and let him know how wonderful I thought he was and how grateful I was to him. And after that I was able to attend a poetry reading in York and meet him again in person. He was gracious enough to kiss me on the cheek in recognition, which was such a kind gesture, and so appreciated! He will be hugely missed: we will not see his like again. Love and gentle thoughts to his family. Jean Sheridan xx
